چکیده
Abstract. The Weather Research and Forecasting model data assimilation (WRFDA) system, initially designed for meteorological assimilation, is extended aerosol the WRF coupled with chemistry (WRF-Chem). An interface between WRF-Chem WRFDA built Regional Atmospheric Chemistry Mechanism (RACM) Modal Aerosol Dynamics Model Europe (MADE) Volatility Basis Set (VBS) schemes. This article describes implementation of new assimilating PM2.5 PM10 as well four gas species (SO2, NO2, O3, CO) on ground. effects are briefly examined through a month-long case study during Korea–United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) period. It demonstrated that improved chemical initial conditions 3D-Var analysis can lead to consistent forecast improvements up 26 %, reducing systematic bias errors in surface (PM10) concentrations 0.0 (−1.9) µg m−3 over South Korea 24 h.

The Aerosol Modeling Testbed: Coordinating the Development of Aerosol Treatments using WRF-chem
The direct (scattering and absorption of radiation) and indirect (cloud-aerosol interactions) effects of aerosols predicted by climate models still contain large uncertainties. To address this issue, the goal of a new project which began this year is to develop an Aerosol Modeling Testbed (AMT) that streamlines the process of testing and evaluating refined aerosol process modules over a wide ra...
متن کاملA three-dimensional variational data assimilation system for multiple aerosol species with WRF/Chem and an application to PM2.5 prediction
A three-dimensional variational data assimilation (3-DVAR) algorithm for aerosols in a WRF/Chem model is presented. The WRF/Chem model uses the MOSAIC (Model for Simulating Aerosol Interactions and Chemistry) scheme, which explicitly treats eight major species (elemental/black carbon, organic carbon, nitrate, sulfate, chloride, ammonium, sodium and the sum of other inorganic, inert mineral and ...
متن کاملEvaluation of New Trace Gas and Aerosol Modules in WRF-chem using Measurements from TexAQS
1.0 INTRODUCTION Much progress has been made in modeling trace gases such as ozone and ozone precursors; however, relatively large uncertainties are still associated with urban, regional, and global-scale model predictions of aerosols (mass, size distribution, composition, physical characteristics, and optical properties) and aerosol direct and indirect forcing. A key step in improving the repr...
